JSON Validator
Paste JSON to check whether it is valid. If it isn't, you get a plain-English message, the line and column, and the surrounding text so you can find the problem quickly.
Paste JSON to check it. Validation runs as you type.
How to validate JSON
- Paste the JSON you want to check into the editor.
- Read the status: a green badge means valid, a red one shows the first error.
- Use the line and column and the highlighted snippet to fix the problem.
- Copy the valid JSON, optionally re-indented.
Frequently asked questions
Which JSON standard does the validator follow?
Strict JSON as defined by RFC 8259 and ECMA-404. Comments, trailing commas, single-quoted strings and unquoted keys are reported as errors, because standard parsers reject them.
Why does it only show one error?
Once JSON is malformed, everything after the first error can be misread, so later 'errors' are often false alarms. Fix the first one and validate again.
Does it check against a JSON Schema?
No. This tool checks syntax only. Schema validation needs a schema document and is out of scope for this tool.
