URL Encoder / Decoder

Operation
Scope

How to URL-encode text

  1. Choose Encode or Decode.
  2. Pick Component (for a value) or Full URL (for a whole address).
  3. Paste your text; the result updates instantly.
  4. Copy the output. Decoded URLs also show their query parameters.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between component and full URL encoding?

Component encoding (encodeURIComponent) escapes everything except letters, digits and - _ . ! ~ * ' ( ), including / ? & = and #. Use it for a single query value. Full URL encoding (encodeURI) leaves those structural characters alone so the URL still works, and only escapes spaces, non-ASCII and other unsafe characters.

Should spaces be %20 or +?

%20 is correct everywhere. + means a space only in application/x-www-form-urlencoded data, such as HTML form submissions. Turn on the + option if you need that format.
